1. The 4.5:1 and 7:1 Standards
Under Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, normal body text must achieve a minimum relative luminance contrast ratio of 4.5:1 against its background. For large headings (18pt or 14pt bold), the threshold is 3:1. For enhanced Level AAA, body text must reach 7:1.

Frequently Asked Questions
While it provides the highest mathematical contrast (21:1), harsh pure black on stark white can cause eye strain for users with dyslexia or photophobia. Dark slate or off-black (#111827) on clean off-white (#F9FAFB) is widely favored in modern design systems.
